Bernard D. Smith, age 74, of Dahlonega, GA died on September 1, 2014 from natural causes. Mr. Smith is survived by his three children and five grandchildren. "Bernie" as his friends called him, also left behind two very dear friends who cared for him as if he were family. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, 6 brothers, his grandson and his beloved dogs Max, Shadow and Bucky. Mr. Smith was born in Toccoa, GA on Aug. 21, 1940. He contracted polio as a child and was chosen to serve as a poster child for Easter Seals. He was self-employed and worked in the flooring industry for more than 50 years. He enjoyed spending time on Lake Lanier, watching sports and having crawfish boils with friends. Bernard was cremated and no services are scheduled at this time. Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega, GA is in charge of the arrangements.
