Obituary

Berniece Joan Bullenkamp passed away peacefully on May 8th, 2024. She passed away on hospice, while in the care of Hospice Northeast Georgia Medical Center

Berniece was born in Brooklyn, New York to George Clinton Foster and Ossie Belle Mills. Berniece proceeded in death by her identical twin sister; Barbara Froelich, as well as her older sister Norma Goros. Together, Berniece and Barbara were commonly addressed as Beebe and Bobbie. Beebe remained close with her twin sister throughout her life. She enjoyed watching themselves grow into strong, independent women, who later wed their dear spouses. Beebe married Richard Bullenkamp in 1955. Richard (Dick) and Beebe were happily married for 68 years. Throughout their marital bliss, they gave birth to four beautiful children: Douglas, Laura, Daniel, and Julie. As the years passed, their children grew, later, creating families of their own. In 1996, Beebe became a grandmother to her first-born grandchild, Elizabeth Stewart from Julie, and her son in law John Smith. John and Julie blessed her parents with two additional grandchildren, Timothy Smith, and Thomas Smith. Later, Douglas and his wife Dawn, gave birth to Douglas' first child, Zakary Bullenkamp. Additionally, Beebe and Dick were granted the honor of being grandparents to Dawn's biological son, Ryan Kronenbitter.

While raising Douglas and Laura, Beebe followed Dick as he toured the world in the United States Air Force, as an Officer. The couple had many adventures together, until he transitioned to the Air National Guard, where he finished his military career. Beebe, along with her husband, raised their children on Long Island, in the town of Merrick, New York. During the 1980's Beebe began working at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). She was the Director of the Learning Center at the Old Westbury Campus for Students with Disabilities. Beebe enjoyed working with her students. She found joy in mentoring her students to believe that they were bright, capable, and equipped with the skills to become extraordinary adults. Beebe often reported that when her students believed in themselves, she "did her job, and she did it well".

When Beebe retired in 1998, she continued to put her energy into all things that she enjoyed. You could find her in tending to her daffodils and tiger lilies, sewing her latest project, hosting patio picnic barbeques, catching a great sale at TJMAXX, or playing with her grandchildren.

In 2009, Dick and Beebe relocated to Dahlonega, Georgia. The last 16 years of Beebe's life had been filled with endless community fellowship, new friendships, church festivities and small groups, and lots of visits from her family in New York.

Beebe lived a beautiful life that was filled with adventure, family, and friends, and lots of laughter. A memorial service will be held May 31st at 3:30pm, at the Dahlonega Methodist Church, located at: 107 South Park Street, Dahlonega GA 30533. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Hospice of Northeast Georgia, or to National Alliance of Mental Illness.
