Mr. Bernis "Potsie" Porter, age 91, of Suches, GA died Thursday April 2, 2015. Mr. Porter was a Jackson County, Georgia native who had lived in Suches for many years. He was a retired carpenter and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church (The Hill Church) in Suches. "Potsie" was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was the son of the late Marion and Florence Savage Porter and was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters. He was the last surviving family member. Mr. Porter is survived by his wife of 68 years, Irene Tritt Porter, Suches, GA; sons and daughter-in-law, Edward and Connie Porter, Rockledge, FL, Gary Porter, Suches, GA; daughters, Janice Slagle, Cumming, GA, Brenda Gilreath, Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren, Nick Porter, Melissa Shealey, Belinda Hansard, Paige Mossinger, Jessica Barrett, Carrie Haywood, and Rodney Gilreath; great-grandchildren, Cody and Zakry Shealey, Sarah Lunsford, Bailey Barrett, Gretchen Mossinger, Gunner Mossinger, Austin and Dustin Haywood, Brittney and Gracie Gilreath; great-great-granddaughter, Presley Gilreath. Numerous other relatives also survive. In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Porter was cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
