Ms. Bessie "Bess" Lee English, age 77, of Auraria, GA (Lumpkin County), passed away Friday, March 13th, 2026, at Magnolia Senior Living in Dawsonville following a period of declining health. She was surrounded by close family as she made a peaceful journey home to Glory.

Bessie was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County, a textile worker at the Milliken New Holland Mill in Gainesville, as well as the Mohawk Industries Pine Tree Plant in Dahlonega. She was also a homemaker, a loving and devoted mother, and she was of the Christian faith.

Throughout her life, Bessie was active within the community, providing care and comfort to the sick and elderly. She was an avid gardener with a deep love of medicinal plants and horticulture. She was also talented with crafts and music and spent many afternoons on her porch playing her Fender guitar and singing Country, Folk, and Gospel hymns.

Bessie was the daughter of the late Claude Ernest Adams and Nell Black Adams, and she was also preceded in death by her middle son, Matthew English; infant sister, Claudine Adams; sisters, Edith Lance, Vernell Black, Edna Merck, and Ruby McKinzey; and brothers, Buck Black and Herbert Adams.

Bessie is survived by her sons, Aaron English of Dahlonega, GA, and Daniel English of New York, NY; grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan Jones of Dahlonega, GA, and Cody English of Ellijay, GA; and sister-in-law, LaRue Adams of Auraria, GA. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives also survive.

Visitation with family and friends is scheduled for 5–8 PM, Monday, March 16th, 2026, A memorial service for Bessie is scheduled for 2 PM Tuesday, March 17th, 2026, at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Cory Ray officiating. Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home of Dahlonega, GA, is in charge of the arrangements.
