Mrs. Betty Jean Raines, age 82, of Dahlonega passed away Thursday, September 3, 2020.

Mrs. Raines was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was born on September 30, 1937 to the late Eli and Nora Ray Fields. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Edwards Raines, her daughter Diane Cantrell, all of her siblings Maudell Fortner, Edward Fields, Marvin Fields, J.W. Fields, Donald Fields, and Bernard Fields. Mrs. Raines loved gardening and canning her vegetables. She loved to attend her church, Oak Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Raines was deeply loved by her family, and her grandchildren affectionately called her "Nanny".

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Jimmy Fortner; son Daniel and Karen Raines, all of Dahlonega; grandchildren Buffi and Greg Evans, Jody and Janna Cantrell, Blake and Lauren Raines, and Brandi Raines; great-grandchildren Bailey Williams, Camryn Williams, Jared Cantrell, Hunter Turner, Jacob Cantrell, and Devon Trigg; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Shane Wehunt, the Rev. Lyman Caldwell, and Mr. Tim Satterfield will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
