William (Bill) Anthony Volpe, age 81, of Dahlonega, GA passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born in Benton Harbor, MI, and had spent the past 18 years in Lumpkin County. He retired as plant manager for J.I. Case, and served his country in the United States Army. Bill was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Dahlonega. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Volpe; sister, Josephine Jackson; and brother, Dominic Volpe. Bill is survived by his son, Michael A. Volpe; companion, Betty Thompson; children, Dennis and Becky Thompson, Nancy and Ray Carpenter, Todd Thompson, all of Dahlonega, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Paula Volpe, Springfield, IL; brother-in-law, William Jackson, Benton Harbor, MI; grandchildren, Brad and Missy Thompson, Chad Thompson and Anna Poe, Josh Carpenter, Craig and Tanya Carpenter; and great grandchildren, Keeley Carpenter, Greyson Carpenter, Gage Thompson, and Lily Thompson. Funeral services for Bill are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega, GA. Rev. Lance Fuller, Rev. Lyman Caldwell, and Rev. Terry Fields will officiate. Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park Cemetery with the military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard.
