Capt. Michael Robert Winship, age 64, of Dahlonega passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018.

Michael was born in Mt. Clemens, MI on February 28, 1954 to the late Robert Francis and Darlene Tait Winship. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother James Lewis Winship. Michael served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. His career began as a ROTC Cadet where he graduated from Airborne School. After graduating from the University of Detroit, earning a degree in business and mathematics, Michael served his country in Korea and Germany. He then earned his MBA at Kennesaw State University and continued to study mathematics at the University of North Georgia. Michael loved to read history especially WWII history.

Survivors include his ex-wife and friend Lynn Winship, Dahlonega; brother and sister-in-law John D. and Randy Winship, Coolidge, GA: brother Robert G. Winship, Ferndale, MI; nephew Joshua Winship; nieces Jessica Winship and Caitlyn Winship LaPointe; and nephew Taron LaMarr and Ryan LaPointe.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday, September 8, 2018 in the chapel of Banister Funeral Home. Father John Matejek will officiate. Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
