Carlene Maxwell, age 77 of Dahlonega, GA, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2026. She is preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae Townley; Coy Odom; Frank Townley; brothers Dean Townley and William Townley.

Mrs. Maxwell is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Julie Benna of Gainesville; her grandchildren Amber (Michael) Manley of Dahlonega, Hannah (Aj) Akins of Adel, Brooke Benna of Gainesville, and Zac Benna of Gainesville; 9 great grand children; her brother, Gene (Lee) Townley of Ellenwood, and her sister Cathy (TJ) Cain of Dahlonega; her most special friends, Joan and Joyce; and numerous other beloved friends and extended family.

Born and raised in Dahlonega, Georgia, Carlene’s career highlights included her work at Lumpkin County Clerk of Courts, as well as at Yellow Freight, where she was a billing clerk. She was also an avid racing fan and loved watching her NASCAR races every week.

Carlene lived a life rooted in her love for God and her family. Known especially for her kindness and her loving heart, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to everyone. She loved and cherished her family, and her greatest joy was her son and grandchildren, who she simply loved spending time with and celebrating their accomplishments and achievements. She will always be remembered as being their biggest supporter and cheerleader.

The family will receive friends and family for a celebration of life on Thursday, October 29th, from 5:00 - 8:00pm at Anderson Underwood funeral home in Dahlonega, Georgia.
