Carolyn Johnson Abercrombie, whose life was marked by love, faith, service, and an unwavering devotion to family, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on July 20, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born in Hall County on February 14, 1943 (always a Valentine) to her beloved late parents, Claude and Chalsie Johnson along side her dear siblings, Homer Johnson, Vera Pinson, and Theo Johnson, all of whom she now joins in Heaven.

She leaves behind her adored husband of 65 years, W. Jerry Abercrombie. Together they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, partnership, and service to others. She is also survived by her son, Vince Abercrombie, and her son-in-law, Zhang Kun Peng. Vince was born 11 years into their marriage, her “miracle baby”, and became the apex of her love and attention for a lifetime. Even if the addition of a son-in-law was unexpected, she dearly loved Peng and welcomed him as her own. She will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Carolyn was a woman of deep and abiding faith. Serving God was not simply part of her life, it was the foundation upon which she built it. She proudly served alongside her husband as a pastor’s wife and was instrumental in founding Dahlonega Assembly of God nearly 50 years ago. She poured her heart into building a congregation, ministering to countless individuals and families through leading youth groups and as church pianist. She and Jerry became U.S. Missionaries with RV MAPS Volunteers during retirement, traveling extensively throughout the United States and to Cuba. Serving alongside her husband in missions those 15 years were among the most rewarding and fulfilling of her life.

Her church family held a special place in her heart, and she considered it one of God’s greatest blessings in her life. After graduating from North Hall High School in 1960, Carolyn began her professional life in secretarial work with Hall County before working with the Lumpkin County School System. She was especially proud of her 18 years working with Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL), where she was admired and respected for her dedication and service.

Aside from her family, Carolyn’s passions were cooking, traveling and talking. Sharing lovingly prepared meals with generous amounts of storytelling of childhood memories or travel adventures, was one of the many ways she enjoyed expressing her love for family, friends, and those in need. A lifelong traveler, Carolyn visited all fifty states and journeyed abroad to Israel, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Mexico, Canada, and various Caribbean destinations. One of her most cherished adventures was visiting her son in Beijing in 2012 and walking along the Great Wall of China.

To know Carolyn was to be welcomed, to be fed, to be prayed for, and to be loved.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Dahlonega Assembly of God. The Rev. Steve Landers will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
