Obituary

Mr. Claude Elmer Trammell, age 96, of Auraria, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026.

Claude was born in Lumpkin County on March 16, 1930, to the late William "Bill" Trammell and Amy Pinson Trammell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 73 years, Mrs. Margaret Marie Trammell; brothers Edward T Trammell and Frank E. Trammell; brother in laws Joe Sullens, Fred Sullens, Ray Sullens, and Ode Sullens; and his sister in laws Dorothy Lingerfelt, JoAnn Hughes, Betty Mason, and Geraldine McKinney.

For many years, Claude proudly owned and operated Trammell's Store in Auraria, where he became a familiar and trusted presence in the community. He later built a long and dedicated career at Pinetree Industries, from which he eventually retired. A man deeply connected to his roots, Claude even panned for the gold that is now displayed on the dome at the Georgia Capitol, leaving behind a unique and lasting legacy. He also gave of himself in quiet, meaningful ways, digging many graves by hand with a simple shovel at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. In his free time, he found great joy in watching and cheering on the Atlanta Braves, a pastime that brought him happiness throughout the years.

Survivors include his children; Lois and Matt Zangara of Auraria, Allen and Vickie Trammell of Auraria, Judy Greenwood and Jesse Tipkin of Oxford, Mississippi, and Terry and Laura Jean Trammell of Auraria , Rissa and Phillip Ray of Auraria; brothers-in-laws and sister in laws, Veronia Castleberry of Dawsonville, Bobby and Sandy Sullens of Brooksville, Florida, Billy and Nancy Sullens of Gainesville, Stanley and Ogie Sullens of Macon, Patty and Kenneth Mulkey of Dawsonville and Peggy Trammell of Gainesville; Grandchildren and their spouses; Mark and Kristy Hallman, Joy and Mitch Patton, Carrie and Scott Hand. Casey and April Trammell, Rodney and Stacie Trammell, Josh Trammell, Corey and Julie Anne Ray, Riley and Julie Ray, Ben and Carey Greenwood, Amy and Ian Anderson. Greatgrandchildren; Georgia Patton, Maddox Patton, Taylor Patton, Grant Hallman, Kenadee Hallman, Cole Grizzle, Cade Grizzle, Kaylee Trammell, Emily Trammell, Sawyer Trammell, Sam Greenwood, Luke Anderson, Tinsley Greenwood, Hayden Greenwood, Colby Woody, Blake Trammell, Stephanie Trammell. Isaiah Ray, Elizabeth Ray, Ethan Ray, Caleb Ray, Kiley Ray, Jacob Ray, and 4 great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and very special friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday March 25, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell and the Rev. Cory Ray will officiate.  Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the service hour on Wednesday at the funeral home.
