David
Abercrombie
Aug 20, 1941 — Jul 4, 2026
Cleveland
David Nick Abercrombie, age 84, of Murrayville, GA passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026 in Cleveland, GA. He was born on August 20, 1941 in Toccoa, GA to Johnny Abercrombie and Margaretta (Raptis) Abercrombie Smith.
He often talked about his childhood; playing in the creek by the family mill with his brothers and cousins and times spent at the barber shop with his uncle. David graduated from Savannah High School in 1959 as captain of the football team manning the tackle position. He then attended Furman University on a football scholarship where he graduated in 1964 with his Bachelor’s Degree. Over the years he owned several businesses and spent his later years as a truck driver. He retired to Ecuador from 2009 until 2017, where he treasured being close to his nephew, Jack Abercrombie, while immersing himself in local arts, food, and making dear friends.
He will be remembered for his fiercely independent spirit, an outrageous sense of humor that kept everyone laughing, and a wonderfully unpredictable nature. He truly marched to the beat of his own drum.
He is preceded in death by his Father, Johnny K. Abercrombie; Mother, Margaretta Abercrombie Smith; Step-Father, Loy L. Smith; Brother, Jack Abercrombie; Grandson, Athanasius Abercrombie.
He is survived by 3 sons, Nick Abercrombie of Gainesville, FL; Steve Abercrombie, and his wife Carol, of Hardeeville, SC; Jeff Abercrombie of Rome, GA; 1 daughter, Mary Kate Abercrombie of Henderson, KY; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; 1 brother, Johnny Abercrombie and his wife, Peggy of Douglasville, GA; and 1 half-brother, Charlie Abercrombie and his wife, Janet of Murrayville, GA. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and numerous beloved cousins that were more like siblings. Spouse, Lois Randolph Abercrombie of Gainesville, GA.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the wonderful staff of Friendship Nursing & Rehab for the wonderful care they gave David over the years, as well as the staff with Pruitt Hospice and the kindness they showed him.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later time.
