David
Norton
May 26, 1942 – June 28, 2024
David Edward Norton, 82, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on June 28, 2024. He was born the third child to Charles and Shirley Norton, in Jacksonville, Florida, on May 26, 1942. In his youth, he and his siblings, Louise Eady and Bryan Norton, enjoyed camping, swimming, reading, basketball, and family trips.
Dave attended the University of Pennsylvania for his undergraduate degree and Georgia State University for his graduate degree. He worked as an actuary for over 40 years, continued to serve as a consultant well after his official retirement, and was a long-time member of the Society of Actuaries.
Dave and Jeannine Norton were married on August 23,1987, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and returned to Georgia three years later. They ultimately retired to beautiful Dahlonega, Georgia, where Dave lived out his final years.
Dave was a true intellectual. He loved nothing more than a stimulating conversation – whether it be about politics, books, sports, music, or any number of topics. Though he was not raised a soccer fan, he became an avid one, enjoying every level of the sport from EuroCup to his grandsons' rec leagues. Above all else, Dave cherished quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Grandave."
He is survived by his wife, Jeannine; his six children, Lauren Atwill, Cabot Norton, April Patton (and husband, Dan), Clint Crane (and wife, Erin), Kellie Crane, and Jacob Crane (and wife, Heather); his sister, Louise Eady; his brother, Bryan Norton; and his fifteen beautiful grandchildren: Hazel, Simon, Sawyer, Alex, Adam, Colten, Jude, Isaac, Mac, Kaye, Charlotte, Owen, Asher, Emmett, and Patrick.
Dave's memorial will be held Friday, July 19 from 1 pm to 3 pm at Anderson Underwood Funeral Home, 2068 Highway 19 North, Dahlonega, GA 30533.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Stand Up to Cancer for continued cancer research.
