Obituary

Mr. Dewey Wright, age 85, of Dahlonega, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Born on April 10, 1938, to the late Joe and Myrtle Wright, Dewey's journey through life was marked by resilience, hard work, and a passion for the open road. His departure leaves a void that echoes the sound of countless miles traveled and a lifetime of cherished memories.

Dewey found his calling as a long-haul truck driver, maneuvering a Peterbilt across the landscape of the United States. From frozen chicken to watermelons, Dewey delivered goods with unwavering dedication, leaving an indelible mark on the highways and byways of the nation. His commitment to his profession was reflected in the countless stories and experiences he gathered from every state, making him a seasoned and respected member of the trucking community.

Retirement ushered in a new chapter for Dewey, one where he embraced the endearing title of "Papa" with open arms. His love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren became the focal point of his life.

Slowing down in his golden years allowed Dewey to savor life's simpler pleasures. He took delight in the aroma of fresh-cut grass and found solace in tending to his garden, where the fruits of his labor mirrored the nurturing spirit he had shown to his family throughout the years.

Survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Shirley Wright, and daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Jerry Lomax, Dewey leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. Grandchildren Kevin Lomax (Nicole) and Cassie Pritchet (Justin), along with great-grandchildren Carsen, Katie, Harper, Isabelle, and Logan, will forever hold cherished memories of a doting "Papa" in their hearts.

Dewey is also survived by his sisters Shirley Hemmings and Helen Gaddis, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives who share in the grief of his passing.

Funeral services to celebrate Dewey's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell and the Rev.
