Doris A. Burns, age 68, of Dahlonega, GA passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015. She was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County and a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. She retired as a caregiver, and enjoyed traveling. She was a devoted wife and mother, and loved her church and her family very much. One of her greatest joys was to prepare meals for her family and friends, and have them all gathered around her table. Doris was the daughter of the late Hubert and Eula Gilreath, and was also preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Gilreath. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Tommy Burns; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne T. and Kim Burns; son, Stanley Burns, all of Dahlonega, GA; brother, Frankie Gilreath, Dahlonega; brother and sister-in-law, Hayward and Maureen Gilreath, Ponce de Leon, FL; sisters, Shirley Burnett, Greer, SC, and Brenda Wall, Oakwood, GA; grandchildren, Erin Burns, Taylor Burns, Cody Burns, Andrew Church, Luke Phillips, and Jessica Barngrover. Numerous nieces and nephews and a number of other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Doris are scheduled for 2 PM Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Antioch Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Dahlonega, GA. Rev. Clifford Allen, Rev. Bobby Whitmire, and Rev. Doug Sherrill will officiate. The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega from 3 PM until 9 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2015, and from 9 AM until service time on Wednesday, January 21, 2015.
