Obituary

Frederick Ormond Eberhart, Jr., age 92, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed to his rest on June 20, 2021. Fred was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 24, 1929, to Fred Ormond Eberhart, Sr. and Wilma Jean (Hill) Eberhart.

Fred loved airplanes and worked at a small airport as a teenager to earn flying time. He earned his private pilot's license by age seventeen. Fred was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army's 163rd Medical Battalion. He graduated from Southern Adventist University with a Bachelor of Science degree and taught science and electronics at several schools. He chose a career as a broadcast engineer and worked in Saudi Arabia for an American oil company for a time before joining WAGA/FOX Network in Atlanta. Fred enjoyed a lifetime of family, travel, music, flying, hiking, and nature.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Laura Eberhart Sherman; and wives, Ruby Jane (Martin) and Helen Frederica (Maxwell), a native of Munich, Germany.

He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-four years, Florence (McDonald); sons, Frederick Ormond Eberhart, III and John Timothy Eberhart; daughter, Kerrie Jane (Eberhart) Dill; several stepchildren; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren (who lovingly called him Opa, which is German for grandfather); and many cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of Homestead Hospice for their excellent care for Fred as his health failed. It was his wish to be cremated. Those who would like to share a memory or a condolence with the family may visit his online guestbook at andersonunderwood.com
