Obituary

Mr. Fred Rider, age 78, of Dahlonega passed away Monday, May 31, 2021. He was born on June 28, 1942 in Lumpkin County to the late Lloyd and Mattie Odom Rider. Fred was a strong man of the Baptist faith and a member of Siloam Baptist Church. He served honorably in the United States Reserves. He then worked for Sears in the  automotive department for many years and retired. Fred then opened his own automotive repair business. After that his ambition took him back to school at North Georgia School of Technology in HVAC. Fred went to work for the Lumpkin County School System and maintained all the HVAC in the schools.

From cookouts to camping by the river, Fred deeply loved his family. He had favorite pastimes, like watching the NASCAR racing series on Sundays. He even raced dirt track in his younger days. More important than his career or any of his hobbies, Fred was a loving and faithful husband, father, and "Poppie".

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Rider.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Pauline Davis Rider of Dahlonega; children, Danny (Lynn) Rider of Dahlonega, and Donna (David) Bryan, also of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Brittany (Bo) Mize, Justin (Erika) Collins, and Amanda Collins; and great-grandchildren, Andrew Brown, Abbigail Mize, Aaron Mize, Arthur Mize, Morgan Collins, Miller Collins, and Cohen Collins. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home with Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Davis Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Freddie Bryan officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 PM until the service hour.
