Obituary

Henry "Corky" Moore, age 95, of Dahlonega, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023. He was born on February 11, 1928, in Dahlonega, Georgia. He was the son of the late Henry Moore Sr. and Elizabeth Boyd Moore. Corky ran the local Ford Motor Company before he began his career as owner and operator of H and M Motors Trucking Company. He was a cherished member of the Dahlonega community, known for his warm heart and a circle of friends that spanned far and wide.  Corky had a contagious sense of humor, never missing a moment to make you laugh. He never met a stranger, and those fortunate enough to know him were touched by his kindness and generosity.

Corky proudly served his country in the United States Army. He continued his comradery as a member of the American Legion.  Corky was a past member of the Georgia House of Representatives. he was a member emeritus of the Blue Mountain Lodge No. 38.

Family was at the center of Corky's world, and he was a devoted family man. His loving wife, Fran Staton Moore, preceded him in death, along with his daughter Virginia Moore and two infant children. Corky also joins his siblings Morrison Moore and Billy Moore in eternal rest.

He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Jane (Jimmy) Cameron of Lexington, North Carolina, and Margaret Sosebee of Dahlonega. He is also survived by his sister, Ann (Al) Wimpy, and brother, Frank (Nancy) Moore. Corky's legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Bryan (Rachel) Cameron, David (Holly) Cameron, Kevin (Susan) Cameron, Kimberly Cain, Stephanie (Matt) Sharpe, and Jordan Cameron. He is also remembered by his great-grandchildren, Carson, Caroline, Colt, Chloe, Madison, Quinton, Erin, Casey, and Ethan, as well as great-great-grandson Griffin, his close friends F.M. Satterfield, Jimmy Simpson, Doug Cochran, Don Christy, David King, and Jerry Lomax. In addition to his immediate family, Corky leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.

In accordance with Corky's wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 2:30 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home and military honors will be provided.  The Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the service hour. Flowers will be accepted, however, for those wanting to make a donation in memory of Corky, donations may be made to the Shiners Children Hospital.
