Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of James R. Burnett, Jr. announces his passing on April 16, 2023.

Jim ("Richard" to his Georgia family; "Dad" to his three children) led a life of possibilities.

In California, he started his family with his wife Donna (raising Kristin and Eric) and then later with his wife Kathy (raising Kylie).  His boundless energy carried him from the Bay Area to Newport Beach to Zambia and then finally to the Seattle area, where he continued to stay in close contact with Kathy, his best friend and business partner.

He was so often an optimistic dreamer, always considering the possibilities of the world around him.  He had a relentless work ethic that guided him from AT&T to the banking industry to clothing manufacturing to home-building to real estate.  He worked almost every day of his life, finishing his final home appraisal just days before his passing.

He had a calming voice that would have been welcome on any 1920s radio show, and he found some of his greatest joys following sports (first the 49ers and then the Seahawks), being on the water, and recalling the simpler times of life.  He considered himself a "good ol' boy" till the end, recalling fondly his childhood stories of Moon Pies, the Georgia Bulldogs, and time spent with cousins and his Uncle Robert.

Jim was a voracious reader - finished books lined his walls in his early years; a Kindle and a library card brought him hours of contentment as he spent the final years of his life off the shores of the Hood Canal.  He loved spy novels, military history and Japanese culture, and he loved to show pride for his children and grandchildren.

His family is coming together on March 3, at the Suches Zion Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 to bury Jim next to his father.  He will be so missed.
