Mr. James "Dwight" Harkins, age 69, of Suches, Georgia, passed away on June 9, 2026.
Born on October 28, 1956, in Dahlonega, Georgia, Dwight was the son of the late Clyde Harkins and the late Virginia Moose Harkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Terri Harkins.
Dwight was a lifelong resident of the Suches community, a place he deeply loved and respected. Home was always near and dear to his heart. He found great joy in the beauty of the outdoors and especially enjoyed feeding the wild turkeys that frequented his property. One of his fondest memories was working at Vogel State Park following high school alongside many of his lifelong friends.
He is survived by his sister, Dianne (Larry) Wood of Suches; his brother, Robert (Brenda) Massey of Cleveland; nieces and nephews, Blaine Harkins, Brandon (Cheryl) Harkins, Britton (Katie) Harkins, Connie (Tim) Luton, Carval Grizzle, and Casey (Adam) Faulkner; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as many friends, neighbors, and other relatives who will cherish his memory.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of PruittHealth and Blue Ridge Hospice for the compassion, care, and support shown to Dwight and his loved ones during his time in their care.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 13, 2026, in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the service hour.
Dwight's love for his mountain home, his appreciation for nature, and his kind spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
