Janice Allene Hatfield Burgess, age 74, of Dahlonega, GA died Wednesday, October 2, 2013. Janice was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County where she was co-owner with her late husband, Don, of D&J Grocery in Dahlonega for 30 years. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. The daughter of the late John H. and Lela Mae Anderson Hatfield, Janice was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. "Don" Burgess; and brother-in-law, Larry Burgess. Mrs. Burgess is survived by her daughter, Connie Burgess; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Louise Hatfield, Curtis and Yvonne Hatfield; sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia and Randy Whitehead; sister-in-law, Marie Burgess; grandchildren, Kyle and Casey Grindle, and Amanda Butler all of Dahlonega, GA. One great grandchild, several nieces and nephews, and a number of other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Janice are scheduled for 2 PM Friday, October 4, 2013 at Philippi Baptist Church. Rev. Jason Fuller and Rev. Jerry Whitlock will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 5 PM until 9 PM, and Friday, October 4 until time of service.
