Jerry
White
May 9, 1946 – July 13, 2024
Raymond Gerald (Jerry) White, 78, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away at home on July 12th, 2024 surrounded by his family after his long and fiercely fought battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Jerry was born on May 9th, 1946, to Dewey Raymond White and Martha Swearingen White in Batesburg, SC. He grew up on a peach farm in Monetta, South Carolina and it was there that his love for tractors and farming grew. He always said that South Carolina peaches were the best. His father was a carpenter and moved the family to Florida, Kentucky, then Missouri where he graduated high school in 1964.
After his graduation, Jerry and his parents moved to Forrest Park, Georgia. He promptly joined Local 72 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and went to work at JM Kenneth Mechanical in Atlanta. While there he piped the MARTA tunnels throughout Atlanta and placed "chillers"on some of the tallest buildings all over the city.
In 1973 he met Celeste Walden White on a blind date and they married in May of 1974. They laid down roots in Ellenwood, Georgia where they were members of The First Baptist of Ellenwood. Their first daughter, Leslie White, was born in October of 1977 and they welcomed a second daughter, Lauren White, in November of 1983.
Jerry went to work at the Ford Motor Company Atlanta Assembly Plant in July of 1984 as a pipefitter. He spent twenty-two years there and retired in 2006. Jerry also owned a plumbing company, L & L Plumbing and took pride in his meticulous work and helping others.
In his spare time, Jerry loved to garden, talk with friends, watch farming videos, eat southern cooking and sweets, and spend time with his grandchildren, Reid and Clara.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Raymond White, and Martha Swearigen White. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Celeste Walden White, daughters Leslie White of Dahlonega and Lauren White (Michael) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and two grandchildren, Reid Adams of Dahlonega and Clara Estelle Huwe of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ron and Linda Anderson of Pensacola, Florida; sister-in-law, Patricia Chadwick of Villa Rica, Georgia and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great nephews and many more family members and friends.
