Jewell Head passed away on February 25, 2026. He was born on December 3, 1938, in Tampa, Florida, to Rufus and Era Head.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Jimmie Sue Head; his brother, Sherman Head; and his son-in-law, Travis Rider.

Jewell worked for many years at Burlington Industries and was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Family meant everything to him. His happiest days were spent on the lake with his wife and his brothers. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren play ball—never missing a game.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Justus, Rhonda (Doug) Cochran, and Lane Rider; his grandchildren, Steve (Anam) Justus, Brent Justus, TJ (Mallory) Rider, Trevor Rider, and Jessica (Keith) York; great-grandchildren, Luke York, Juliana York, Jacelyn York, Layla Justus, and Baby Rider, expected this summer.

He is also survived by his sister, Vi Ballentine; his brothers, Ernest Head and Tinker (Connie) Head; sister-in-law, Beni Gail Head; and beloved great-niece, Ansley Smallwood, who held a special place in his heart; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell, the Rev. Luke York, and the Rev. Stephen Gerrells, and Mr. Doug Cochran will officiate. Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park, with the Rev. Keith York and the Rev. Dalton Delozier officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.
