Obituary

Mr. John T. "Tommy" Cato, age 82, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on January 9, 2025. Tommy was born on November 29, 1942, in Gainesville, Georgia, to the late John Cato Sr. and Edith Brown Cato. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Nettie Cato.

Tommy is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Rachel Cato of Dahlonega, Georgia; his children, Keith Cato of Nashville, Tennessee, Stacey Cato (Katie) of Nashville, Tennessee, and Melissa Moxley (Daniel) of Yadkinville, North Carolina; and his sister and brother-in-law, Lynda Gastley (Ed). He was a proud grandfather to Jairin, Ravin, Noah, and Bo, and a beloved great-grandfather to Wrenley. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives also survive.

A proud Vietnam veteran, Tommy served his country honorably in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot. After his military service, he applied his dedication and entrepreneurial spirit to owning and operating a successful John Deere dealership in North Carolina, where he became a respected and valued member of the community.

Tommy's warmth, wisdom, and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Honoring Tommy's wishes, he will be cremated, and no public services will be held at this time. The family encourages those who knew and loved Tommy to hold his memory close to their hearts.
