Martha Elizabeth Head, age 85, of Dahlonega Georgia, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday November 18, 2025. She was born at 9:00 AM on Saturday, May 18, 1940, in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Grady Wilson Winkler and the late Annie Grace Payne Winkler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Winkler, and her Great Granddaughter Ashley Dunne Burt.

Martha moved to Cleveland, Georgia in May of 1944 due to World War II to live with her Grandparents, George and Bessie Winkler. She attended Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church and in her first Bible School memorized Psalms 121 and Exodus 3:14 which would become her favorite Bible verses. She was saved on February 15, 1959, and was baptized later that year on April 19 by Rev. Walker R. Evans at the First Baptist Church of Cleveland, Ga.

She graduated from White County High School in 1959 and in July of that year, she moved to Atlanta to work at Southern Bell. In March of 1960 she was transferred to Gainesville and then left the company in December to be married on January 1, 1961. She was employed by Dr. Harold Long for a time, and then went on to a career in accounting at the Bank of Dahlonega and BB&T where she made many lifelong friends.

Martha lived in the Yahoola Valley for many years and there gave birth to Gail Elizabeth Head on November 15, 1961. In 1981 she moved where she would reside until her passing on Blackberry Trail off of Town Creek Road.

Martha enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, arts and many crafts. She enjoyed reading, researching family genealogy and she traveled extensively in the United States and Europe. Martha was a long time committed member of Cavenders Creek Baptist Church and will be greatly missed.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Gail Head. Grandchildren Casie Head, Timothy {Kelly) Piatty, Crystal (Kevin) Fields. Great grandson, Chance Fields. Great great grandchildren Joseph Dunne and Hailey Burt. Many other family and friends survive.

Funeral Services for Martha will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Cavender Creek Baptist Church in Dahlonega. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Stephen Adams will officiate. She will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
