Mary Ann Schmitt Turner, age 91, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on April 30, 2024. She was born on June 10, 1932, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Raymond Schmitt and the late Anna Prevatil Schmitt. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her loving husband, William R. Turner, and her brother, Raymond A. Schmitt.
Mary Ann is survived by her children, Susan Marie Turner of Atlanta, Georgia, Nancy (Frank) Suslavich of Duluth, Minnesota, and Rebecca (Charles) Savage of Jefferson, Georgia; grandchildren Benjamin, Sam, Sarah, and Hannah; sister-in-law Marion Ann Turner; nephew and nieces Steven (Peggy) Schmitt, Cissy (Jay) Gibbons, Dianne Wilson, and Kelly Riordan; and great niece Kathleen Brennan (Ben Phelan).
Mary Ann had a deep love for gardening, which became a cherished passion throughout her life. Upon retiring, she and William discovered Dahlonega, where they found a serene 8-acre property adorned with beautiful trees—a place Mary Ann immediately envisioned as her home. She cultivated flower beds across the acreage, finding solace and joy in her gardening endeavors. Beyond her green thumb, Mary Ann was known for her talents in seamstress work, baking, home decorating, and more, earning her a reputation as a versatile and capable woman.
A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Mary Ann will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Her legacy of love, creativity, and warmth will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Mary Ann was a parishioner of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Dahlonega for 25+ years and was an active member of the Woman's Guild, where she made many dear lifelong friends.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Dahlonega, Georgia, on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 2:00 PM.
