Obituary

Michael "Mike" Paul Duke, age 79, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026. He was born on November 4, 1946, in Salem, New Jersey, to the late Paul Duke and the late Dorothy Zane Duke.Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Lynda Petty Duke of Dahlonega; his son, Kristopher Duke of Dahlonega; his daughter, Allison Duke of Opelika, Alabama; and several beloved cousins.

Mike proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years as a radar maintenance technician. Following his military service, he met the love of his life, Lynda, in San Francisco. Using the GI Bill, he attended Trenton State College, and The University of Texas at Dallas, where he furthered his education before beginning a long and successful career in the telecommunications industry. He started with Southwestern Bell and later retired from AT&T. Never one to stay idle, Mike returned to the workforce after retirement and enjoyed several more years with KPMG.

Twelve years ago, Mike and Lynda made Dahlonega their home after many years in Johns Creek. He quickly became an active member of the community through St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, where he faithfully served as the church representative for the local Side by Side ministry. He also enjoyed volunteering and lending a helping hand at the American Legion in Dahlonega.

Mike found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved traveling, and spending time at the beach. Growing up, the Jersey Shore always held a special place in his heart. He enjoyed being outdoors, playing tennis, and faithfully participated in the Peachtree Road Race year after year. He had a lifelong appreciation for music, especially The Beatles, and treasured the companionship of his favorite dog, Rowdy.

In accordance with Mike's wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Dahlonega, Georgia.
