Mrs. Nellie Gibson Derrick, age 87, of Lawrenceville, formerly of Dahlonega, passed away December 26, 2017 following an extended illness.

Mrs. Derrick was born in Dahlonega, GA on April 25, 1930 to the late Elijah and Marcella Crane Gibson. She is also preceded in death by her husband George Derrick, sisters Ruby Truelove and Idell Helton, and brother Henry Gibson. Mrs. Derrick graduated from North Georgia and Canisius Colleges. She lived on Grand Island in New York for a number of years. Mrs. Derrick served as the Academic Dean of Niagara School of Business and the Gwinnett School of Business, and then as President of Designer Supply Inc. from 1993 till 2007.  A love for children started her on a career in counseling.  She was also a foster parent and mentor for many children over the years.

She is survived by sons David and Robert Derrick, daughter Jillian Bain and their respective spouses Deborah, Jacqueline, and Tom Bain. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 7 P.M. Friday, December 29, 2017 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tom Bain will officiate. A private graveside internment will take place the following day.

The family will receive friends Friday from 3 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
