Ray Gene Anderson, age 84, of Dahlonega, GA passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Ray Gene was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He worked for the Lumpkin County Road Department for 12 years, did construction work for many years, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Philippi Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. Ray Gene was the son of the late Luther and Bessie Christy Anderson and was also preceded in death by sisters, Edis Ellis, Estelle Grindle, and Lela Mae Hatfield; brothers, Grady, Lewis Dean, Paul, and Burt Anderson; step-children, Johnny Ray, Jean Southerland, and Joan Norsworthy. He is survived by his wife, Morene Anderson, Dahlonega, GA; children, Jacky and Jill Ray, Jeff and Margie Anderson, Linda and Frank Seabolt, Brenda and Johnny Ellis, Debbie Gilstrap, Denise and Keith Etheridge, all of Dahlonega, GA; sister Sonie Couch, Murrayville, GA. 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Ray Gene are scheduled for 2 PM Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega. Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Jason Fuller will officiate. Interment will follow in the Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans Alliance Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Thursday May 7, 2015 from 5 PM until 9 PM and again on Friday until time of service.
