Mr. Richard Thornton, age 66 of Dahlonega, GA passed on September 10, 2026. 

Richard was born on April 28, 1960, in Tampa, FL, to the late Roy Thornton and Sarabell Harkins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Thornton. 

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Cheryl Berry Thornton. He is also survived by his siblings, Lamar Thornton (Sherry Cates) and Sheila Johns (David); his children Shannon Berry (Phillip Roydes) and Mitchell Berry; his grandchildren Shana Mathis, Adam Mathis, and Bailey Berry; and his great-grandchildren Shalynn Mathis and Bubba Kade Mathis. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory. 

Richard was a hard-working man who spent most of his life working drywall. He took great pride in providing for his family and giving an honest day's work.  Outside of work, Richard was an outdoorsman at heart. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time enjoying the simple things in life. 

One of Richard's favorite pastimes was watching rodeos, especially cheering on his favorite bull, Yellow Jacket. He was also very proud of his Native American heritage, honoring his Seminole and Cherokee roots.     

Richard was, above all, a great man who loved his family and lived life his own way. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on through his family, the stories they share, and the many lives he touched. 

In accordance with Richard's wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no public services.
