Mr. Robert Eugene "Gene" Parsons, age 78, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019.

Mr. Parsons was born in Hall County on July 22, 1940 to the late Dewitt and Gladys Brooksher Parsons.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Robert Stephen Parsons.  Mr. Parsons was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation.  He loved Bluegrass music and he loved to play his guitar, mandolin, and banjo.  He was a loving father and grandfather and was lovingly called "Papa Gene".

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Parsons, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law Phillip and Tammy Parsons, Murrayville; daughter Vicky Claudine Parsons, Dahlonega; grandchildren Sydney Parsons and Jordyn Parsons; sisters Shelvie Miller, Gainesville, and Montez Marlow, Commerce; sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Bud Davis, Gainesville; brother Ashley Parsons, Gainesville; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Mike Taylor will officiate.  Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
