Obituary

Mrs. Shirley Mae Boynton Bailey, age 91, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026.

Born on September 2, 1934, in Plymouth, Illinois, Shirley was the daughter of the late Frederick Worman and the late Mildred Lucille Kendall Worman. She received her education in Galesburg, Illinois and was married and raised three children there.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Boynton and Roger Bailey; her son, Brian Boynton; her siblings, Rollie Worman, Terry Worman, and Lillian Cheryl Worman; and her beloved travel partner, Rex Andrews.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Lori Hoffman (Paul) of Dahlonega and Judy DeMoore-Null of Dahlonega; her sister, Stacy Watson of Apache Junction, Arizona; her daughter-in-law, Tana Boynton of Oquawka, Ill.; grandchildren Austin Riddell, Jessica DeMoore, and Justin Conner; great-grandchildren Katelynn Riddell and Haden Riddell; and a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.

Shirley was an artist in the truest sense of the word. in 1977, she moved from Galesburg to Scottsdale, AZ and then to Dewey, AZ in 1989. She had retired from 22 years in the banking business and was ready for a new endeavor. She joined the Prescott Valley Art Guild and served as its Vice President as well as its workshop chairman. Being workshop chairman allowed her to meet many local artists, visit different galleries, and it gave her exposure to many new techniques and media. She enjoyed working with charcoal, pen and ink, pastel, oil, acrylic, watercolor and collage.

A faithful member of Dahlonega United Methodist Church, Shirley shared her love of music by singing in the church choir for many years. She also enjoyed playing cards and board games and was exceptionally skilled at the games. Dementia took away many of Shirley's short term memories but not her ability to play games she loved.

After a successful career in the banking industry, Shirley retired at the age of 55 and embraced her love of travel. She found great joy in exploring new places, meeting new people, and making memories that would last a lifetime.

Shirley will be remembered for her creativity, humor, adventurous spirit, and the love she shared with her family and friends. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and the beautiful works of art she left behind.

In accordance with her wishes, Shirley was cremated, and no public services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to N.O.A, No One Alone, PO Box 685, Dahlonega, Georgia, 30533
