Stacy Joe Abercrombie, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on September 2, 2026. He was born on June 26, 1965, to the late Joseph Abercrombie and the late Dolores Sutton Anderson.
Stacy was a man who could rarely be described with just a few words. He was brilliant, curious, full of personality, and always had a story to tell. He was a great storyteller and proudly carried the role of family historian, remembering the people, places, and stories that made his family what it was. He loved giving people a hard time, and his humor and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
An avid outdoorsman, Stacy loved hunting and fishing and had a particular passion for searching for arrowheads. He also enjoyed working with a sawmill and took great pride in his many interests and talents. He was a self proclaimed professional horseshoe player and a self proclaimed artist, spending time painting and drawing. Whether he was outdoors, working with his hands, telling a story, or giving someone a hard time, Stacy had a way of making an impression.
Of all the things he loved, however, nothing compared to the love he had for his grandchildren. His granddaughters, Eveleen and Josephine, held a special place in his heart, and they affectionately knew him simply as “Grandpa.” One of his greatest joys was taking Eveleen to church with him. In a particularly meaningful moment, Stacy was recently baptized right beside his beloved granddaughter, a memory that his family will treasure forever.
Stacy was a proud and active member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, where his faith became an important part of his life. His love for his family, his church, and the people around him was evident in the way he lived.
He is survived by his children, Joshua Abercrombie (Bobbie) of Dahlonega and Jordan Abercrombie of Dahlonega; his sister, Sonya Abercrombie and her spouse, Mike Kautz, of Habersham County; his grandchildren, Eveleen Abercrombie and Josephine Abercrombie; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other relatives who will cherish his memory.
Stacy leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind stories to be retold, lessons to be remembered, laughter to be shared, and a family who will carry his history forward. His grandchildren will grow up knowing the stories of their “Grandpa,” and in that way, a part of Stacy will continue to live on for generations to come.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Les Fuller, the Rev. Stephen Gerrells, and the Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home to help offset final expenses.
