Susan
Herrington
May 14, 1960 – March 18, 2026
Mabel "Susan" Herrington (Meeks) of Cleveland, Georgia passed away on March 18, 2026 far too soon at the age of 65. Susan was born on May 14, 1960 in Atlanta, Georgia to parents, Mabel Lucille Meeks (Davis) and Jerry F. Meeks.
Susan is survived by her husband, James Drew Herrington; mother, Lucille Meeks of Flowery Branch, GA; daughter Amber Renteria and grandchildren Gabriela Renteria, David Renteria and Erica Renteria of Gainesville, GA; siblings, Lynn Murray of Dahlonega, GA, Vicki Marsh (Linda Hammett) of Flowery Branch, GA, and Michael Meeks of Gainesville, GA; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Jerry Meeks and sister Lisa Glasco.
Susan worked as a culinary manager for many years at the University of North Georgia, and proudly earned her GED in 2012. As a teenager, she loved to roller skate and won many contests. She also taught herself how to oil paint (from Bob Ross!) and her beautiful paintings adorn the walls of her home.
Susan married her soulmate James in 2014, and together they lived a full and joyful life, while working hard and caring for their family. Susan was a devoted life partner and wife to James, demonstrating from the earliest days of their relationship care and attention to the many small details that would bring him daily happiness and a belly full of her nourishing home cooking.
She was the best momma to three dogs: Bean, Belle and especially Buddy – she was his person and he was her dog. She loved horses, sunflowers, and antiquing, and filled their home with thoughtful decorations, including the music of many clock bells, and the whimsy of crystals that reflect dancing rainbows on the walls, which amuses Belle to no end. Susan was known for her laughter, generosity, humor, and curiosity. Her family was everything to her, especially her husband James.
Susan was well known and loved by everyone, which is a testament to her easy and outgoing manner. From the earliest days of their relationship, it was clear that Susan fit right in with the Herrington family, quickly becoming a beloved daughter and sister who always showed up at weddings and funerals, birthday celebrations, and holidays. Susan always brought a smile and joyful laughter, while staying sassy enough to keep James in line in all the best ways. She was smart, wise, hardworking, and a loving, strong advocate for all her family members.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 3:30–5:30 pm at The Retreat at River Forks Park, Gainesville, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hall County Animal Shelter (1688 Barber Rd, Gainesville, GA 30507) in Susan's memory.
