Obituary

Mr. Vernon William Chism, age 78, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away on April 19, 2021. He was born on November 23, 1942 in Denver, Colorado to the late Donald Chism and the late Florence Stewart. Vernon lived in Arizona and in New Mexico before ultimately moving to the North Georgia mountains where he would spend the rest of his life. Wherever he was, he had to be surrounded by beautiful mountains. He loved the outdoors and the mountains truly provided him with the right elements whether it be for hunting, fishing, reading a book or simply taking a nice stroll in the sunshine along a mountain stream. He will always be remembered as a family man and a genuinely kind person who would give the shirt off his own back for anyone in need. He had a gentle way about him and was a true free spirit and a free thinker. One thing that Vernon would always challenge people to do is to better themselves. If he were here today, he might say something to you along the lines of,  "The only person you should strive to be better than is the person you were yesterday". For many he was a mentor, and those people will be forever grateful.

In addition to both parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Gary Chism.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Chism of Dahlonega, GA; children, Rodney (Andrea) Chism of Tucson, AZ, Rebekah (Bob) Tice of Dawsonville, GA, Robert (Denese) Chism of Tucson, AZ, Jimmy (Nicole) Chism of Oro Valley, AZ, Sharon (Billy) Anglin of Dawsonville, GA, Jesse (Hope) Chism of Cumming, GA, Beth (Conrad) Hudson of Dawsonville, GA, Deborah Chism (Jorge Guzman) of Tucson, AZ, and Dina (Sam) Benson of Dawsonville, GA; and siblings, Donna Chism, Beth Brown, Lloyd Chism, and T Rac Burch.

It was Mr. Chism's wishes to be cremated. A private family memorial service will be held in celebration of the life of Vernon.
