Mr. Vernon Smith, age 71, of Dahlonega, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

Vernon was born in Waynesville, NC, to the late George Vernon and Addie Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepdaughter and step-son-in-law, Lisa and Nathan Owens.

Vernon was a loving husband and stepfather. His devotion to his family was seen and felt every day. Vernon loved spending time and playing with his grandchildren. His favorite pastimes were cutting grass, gardening, and anything outdoors. Vernon leaves a tremendous testimony that in 2011, he trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Survivors include his beloved wife of thirty-six years, Debbie Smith; stepson, Steve Abercrombie (Stephanie); step-grandchildren, Joshua Owens; and Danielle Owens. Tayler Kitchens, Lilly Owens; step-great-grandchildren Corbin James Ford; sisters Martha Boling, Susan Smith (Roger), Betty Murphy (Dewey Gene); brother Arther Lee Smith (Rita) several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, September 8, 2023, at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Stover, the Rev. Tony Howard, and the Rev. Sam Rawlings will officiate. Interment will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
