Obituary

Víctor Otero Nazario, born on May 1, 1927, in Morovis, Puerto Rico, USA, passed away on March 19, 2026. He was the beloved son of Faustina Nazario Rosado and Jesús Otero Negrón (deceased).

Víctor was the devoted husband of Benigna Merced Báez (deceased), with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family and raised three daughters: Gladys, Nancy, and Daisy.

He is survived by his daughters; his grandchildren Rochelle, Darelle, José Hommy, Nahommy, Homary, Arnold, and Víctor; his great-grandchildren Sebastian, Yadier, Yanís, Yeison, Arnold Jonuell, Abner Januell, Harold Jeniell, and Nathalia; and his great-great-grandson Ryan.

Víctor was one of many siblings: Carmelo, Jesús, Israel, Ismael, Ovidio, Élban, Ángel, Juana, Rosalía, Isabel, Irene, and Ana (deceased). Remarkably, he outlived all 12 of his siblings.

Born in the inner town of Morovis, by the mountains of the Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico, Víctor lived a life rooted in family, dedication, and resilience. After marrying "Nina," they spent most of their lives in the metro area of Río Piedras, where they raised their daughters during the 1950s.

Víctor was a loving, protective family man devoted to his wife and attentive to the needs of both his immediate and extended family. He served in the National Guard and enjoyed hobbies such as assembling model military planes, hunting, and photography. His passion for photography resulted in hundreds of family photos that tell the story of his life.

He built a successful career as a Merchandising Sales Specialist, representing well-known brands such as Stokely®, VanCamp®, McCormick®, Del Monte®, Bohío®, and others throughout Puerto Rico and neighboring islands. He concluded his career at Freiría & Company, where he served as Sales Manager for McCormick® spices in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

A natural leader, Víctor also chaired the Parent-Teacher Council at Juan B. Huyke Elementary School in Río Piedras during the 1960s.

In 1990, following his retirement, Víctor and Nina moved to Gurabo, where they built their dream home. In 2004, their daughters organized a surprise 50th wedding anniversary celebration in Florida, including a ceremony at Mary Help of Christians church in Parkland, FL. The couple cherished time spent with family through dinners, trips, shopping, and gatherings.

In later years, Víctor and his wife began experiencing memory issues that gradually affected their daily lives. In 2022, they relocated to Lumpkin County, Georgia, for additional care. Six months later, his beloved Nina passed away due to a stroke.

During his time in Georgia, Víctor remained loving and humorous through the early stages of Alzheimer's. As the condition progressed, it slowly diminished his vitality and presence, leading to increasing exhaustion and other prolonged symptoms.

His daughters express deep gratitude for both their parents, remembering them as responsible, faithful, loving, and caring individuals who truly enjoyed life. With cherished memories and heartfelt sorrow, they will miss him dearly.

With deep appreciation and admiration for his daily care, the family thanks: Miosotis Claudio, Madison Pruett, Brittany Parks, Ana Pulido, Maryellen Schroeder, Robin Kirchner (Caregivers).

Víctor also grew to deeply appreciate the support he received from Pruitt Health Home Hospice: Angie Walker (Nurse), Heather McCreary (Nurse), Becky Williams (Nurse), Clayton Keye (Nurse), Faith E. Anthony (Nurse), Courtney Topolski (Social Worker), John Reeser (Chaplain), Margaret Grant, Casey Brumbelow, Katie Hayes (Assistant Nurses)

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many others who offered love, compassion, and comfort to Víctor throughout his final years.

It was Victor's wish to be cremated. Private family services will be held. The family will take Nina and Víctor's cremated remains to their Gurabo municipality "Iglesia Católica de Celada" (Catholic Church of Celada) where they will hold a service in both their memory. Then they would be buried at their cemetery plot in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico.

Rest in peace beloved mami and papi.
